Last Saturday my wife gave me a birthday gift in advance - A walk in and see Soren Solkær Starbird's show Closer Øksnehallen.
What a wonderful gift to receive.
Originally, our two children have been with, but they were delivered to some friends. I was afterwards told that she had just taught them to behave properly in to the show, so I had time to enjoy the pictures.
And I must admit that the show was FANTASTIC!
Since 1999, Soren Solkær Starbird taken pictures of rock stars - both Danish and foreign artists.
Starbird has a way to portray his subjects in a unique, raw way, he comes under the shell as some artists and captures them in beautiful portraits. We walked around for a few hours, just to watch and discuss his pictures, details of the individual artists and had a great trip.
On some walls were portraits of different artists, and other walls had only a single artist or band. The portraits were from small 4 × 6 inches, to huge of 3 × 4.5 meters.
On Monday (April 13) it was my birthday and one of the gifts from my wife was - His book follows his show!

The book is incredibly delicious and would be perfect if one day I would meet Soren Solkær Starbird - And get him to sign it. It is in large format, with nice quality paper, 213 pages with images - A total of 238 pages if you count the foreword by Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand and the rear index of images.

To name a few of the artists he has worked with, I mention at random, The Raveonettes, The White Stripes, Tom Jones (Cool pictures of Tom), Gnarls Barkley, REM, U2 and Metallica. I must give him respect for his paintings of portraits of Sharin Foo from The Raveonettes - Wow!
If you are near Copenhagen in the near future, you can visit the exhibition Closer Øksnehallen (ending 26th April 2009). It costs 75DKR to get in, unless you want the whole experience and get a concert.
